Running down the famous Concertgebouw stairs with the energy of one half his age, Vladimir Jurowski joined the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra for programme of Mozart and Bruckner.
The evening started with a ravishing performance of Mozart 40, full of sophistication, grace and elegance. With all the musicians on their feet (except the four cellos), Jurowski swept us along with a transparent sound canopy, full of questions and just as many answers.

Further listening
Listen to a historic live 1972 recording of Bruckner’s First Symphony with the late Bernard Haitink, recently published in a new RCO box set celebrating Bruckner’s anniversary.
An interview
Read an interesting interview below with Vladimir Jurowski in which he defines music as something “beyond the spoken word” which “touches the soul directly”.
As I mention in my review for Bachtrack, he invests a great amount of time and thought in programming. He does not believe that you should repeat a programme. Life is there to always make new discoveries, always to reinvent yourself”.
Jurowski also shares his quite strong views on the current political situation in his native home of Russia. He is a man with quite a lot to say!
