Amsterdam really is the place to be. With not one, but two world premieres from Dutch National Opera in their Opera Forward festival a fortnight ago; the world premiere of Lady Macbeth at sister company Dutch National Ballet on the 5th; and the much anticipated Mahler Festival at the Concertgebouw next month featuring ensembles from all over the world. Not to be outdone, the Muziekgebouw aan’t IJ hosted its own festival, Minimal Music Special as a prelude to a full-blown edition in 2026. Tonight’s concert featured the music of Steve Reich performed by one of his greatest proponents, British percussionist and director, Colin Currie, joined by Dutch contemporary music ensemble, Asko|Schönberg.
